Italy’s Wine Harvest: Wine Production Down for 2012
Published on Thursday, October 18, 2012 by

As winemakers across Italy wrap up the harvest season, the winemakers’ association reports that Italian wine production is down for 2012. The lower production yields means the price of Italian wine will go up.

“The increase in prices could be damaging to Italian winemakers’ overseas sales, especially in the Canadian and US markets,” Giuseppe Martelli, director of Assoenologi told the Italian news agency ANSA.

Production was down 8% over 2011. The Italian wine association says this may mean prices up to 50% higher.
