Karl Lagerfeld Retrospective Opens in Florence
Published on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 by

karl-lagerfeldAs part of a three-year initiative to promote the culture of contemporary fashion, Florence’s Pitti Palace will feature a collection of more than 200 photos shot by German fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld. Called Visions of Fashion, the exhibit is an anthology of Lagerfeld’s work, including a self-portrait, unpublished works, photos published in fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and photos inspired by classical mythology. The photos encompass a variety of photographic techniques, such as daguerreotypes, platinum prints, Polaroid transfers, resinotypes, screenprints and digital prints, and showcase Lagerfeld’s elegant style.

The collection will be housed in several rooms in the Pitti Palace, including the Sala Bianca, which held the world’s first fashion shows in the early 1950s and gave rise to the international success and acclaim of Italian fashion.

The exhibit will be on display  until October 23, and is a collaboration between the Uffizi Gallery and Pitti Immagine, a company that hosts fashion events in Italy. The exhibit’s start date coincides with the 90th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, one of the most important men’s fashion fairs in the world.
