May Events in Italy
Published on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 by

The month of May is a great time to visit Italy. Italy’s summer festival and cultural season is underway but the summer tourists haven’t arrived yet so you have Italy more to yourself. Think about these Italy events for your May trip to Italy:

May 1-4: Festa di Sant’ Efisio – This is the 356th celebration of Sant’ Efisio. A statue of the saint is carried in a procession (on a cart pulled by oxen) to the town of Nora to disavow a promise made by the people during the 17th-century plague. This is one of Sardinia’s largest and most colorful festivals. Those who march in the parade where traditional Sardinian costumes – dating back hundreds of years.

May 3 – 5: Calendimaggio – This song and balladry competition between the upper and lower sections of Asissi, dating back to medieval times. In addition to the contest, local Umbrians in period costume perform dances, archery and flag-waving displays.

May 23 -27: Florence Gelato Festival – The city of Florence serves up some of the best gelato in Italy and no more so during this 4-day extravaganza featuring tastings, gelato-making lessons, games for kids and more.

May 27: Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars) – For the past 20 years, vineyards all over Italy have opened their cellars on the last Sunday in May. This year 1,000 “open cellars” will welcome a million visitors.

    • Hey! I was wondering if you could share the events and festivals happening in Italy during August to October, I plan to travel then and can’t find a good source of some great events to go to. I am not opposed to any city if there is something great happening there, but for the record, I would really like to go to Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Milan, and any other place you recommend.

      Thank you!!
