Italy: Sweet Spot for Senior Travel
Published on Monday, October 1, 2012 by

Italy is one of the top five best destinations for travelers over the age of 70, according to British travel association Abta. While British seniors have the advantage of being that much closer to Italy than their American counterparts, Italy is still a hot destination for American senior travel.

Since seniors, especially those over 70, have special considerations, escorted Italy tours often make more sense than independent travel.  Here are some of the reasons why:

  • The senior traveler needs to do very little advanced planning on his or her own. Everything is mapped out, hotels chosen, meals planned. The senior just needs to choose a tour that offers the Italian destinations on his or her wish list.
  • With private transportation, seniors can be dropped off right at the sites and the need for too much walking is limited.
  • The tour leader is available at all times to assist senior guests with any of their needs.
  • A group tour is just more social and seniors will come away making new friends.

    • I have been on a Perrillo tour quite a few years back and it was Off the Beaten Track that went to Perugia, Qubbio and a few other places that were great . I would like to repeat that trip, but have not seen that listed. That is a great trip for those of us seniors who want to see these places among others, and are too old to drive to those places–I have been to Italy 4 or 5 times and that trip was my favorite.
